The current understanding is that infrastructure, buildings, industry, and communities have to be protected by engineering-based solutions, or cities have to retreat. The book adds two more solutions where cities can advance onto the water or can accommodate. All four different concepts are introduced and presented in a manual and as urban design proposals for one specific site. Therefore, the book can be used in two ways: Either as a general guide for urban transition processes due to +1m sea level rise, or as demonstration project how differently sites can be developed further and created thereby additional opportunities.
