Sherif Hanafy Mahmoud is an Associate Professor and Associate Dean (Academic) at the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Alberta. He also practices as a neurocritical care clinical pharmacist at the University of Alberta Hospital. He earned his BSc (Pharm) and Master’s degree in Clinical Pharmacy from Ain Shams University, followed by a PhD in pharmacokinetics from the University of Alberta, and completed additional clinical research training at Harvard Medical School. With over 25 years of experience in pharmacy practice and research, Sherif has served in multiple roles as a clinician, researcher, educator, and leader. He teaches patient assessment skills across a variety of practice settings, and his approach has been recognized by students and peers as both unique and exceptional. His research focuses on how neurological injury and other patient-specific factors influence the action and disposition of medications, an important step toward advancing personalized pharmacotherapy. Throughout his career, Sherif has received numerous accolades, most recently being named the Canadian Pharmacist of the Year by the Canadian Pharmacists Association.
