Aînée de cinq frères et sœurs, elle est née à San José en Californie et fait des études au Maroc avant de rentrer en Californie pour s’inscrire dans une école de commerce. Elle épouse Howard Busbee en 1963. Encouragée par ses amies Rosemary Rogers et Jennifer Wilde, elle écrit son premier roman L’appel de la passion qui sera publié en 1977 aux États-Unis. Après seize romances historiques, elle se lance dans le contemporain. À partir de 2007, elle renoue avec la romance historique pour le plus grand plaisir de ses admirateurs.
