Carole Pateman est professeure dans le département de science politique de l'Université de Californie à Los Angeles. Elle a été la première femme à présider l'Association internationale de sciences politiques. Ses travaux en philosophie politique portent aussi bien sur la participation démocratique que sur le revenu minimal. Pour penser l'articulation entre " contrat sexuel " et " contrat racial ", elle a coécrit avec Charles W. Mills, Contract & Domination (2007).
