Hunter Davies est écossais, il est journaliste. Il fut l’un des premiers amis du groupe constitué et publia la première biographie autorisée des Beatles dès 1968. Elle fut régulièrement mise à jour. 
Il a obtenu la confiance de Yoko pour élaborer cet album exceptionnel qui paraît à l’occasion du cinquantième anniversaire de la sortie du premier grand succès des Beatles : Love me do.
