James Barr est diplômé d'histoire contemporaine à Oxford. Il est aujourd'hui associé au King's College de Londres et dirige son entreprise de recherche. Spécialiste du Moyen-Orient, il est notamment l'auteur de Setting the Desert on Fire (Mettre le feu au désert) , paru en 2006.
